Dissertation

Today I have been working on my Dissertation proposal. My topic is about developments in Smart fabric technology in practical and creative ways. I have
plenty of books out on how smart fabrics are used, and will be used, in practical ways, (think temperature control, air purifying and spray on fabric) but not so much on creative uses.

I did a bit of research and suddenly thought of the trend that we have all seen coming through in the last few seasons of three dimensional prints. Of course since the whole world has suddenly gone crazy for everything 3D, it was about time fashion caught on, even if it is generally lagging behind other industries when it comes to technology. Topshop Unique, Ann-Demeulemeester and my favourite Dries van Noten have all taken on the trend, but designer Tri nouio has created garments that require 3D glasses to be worn. The prints, he says, are 'intended to be a distraction from the human form' which is quite an interesting concept.
